About Susie Scissorhounds

Since owning my first dog at the age of 5, I knew I wanted a career with dogs. I wanted to spend as much time with them as possible so started voluntary dog walking at a local rescue at 8 years old. I went on to assisting in dog training classes, working in rescue centres, achieving a certificate in animal management, a degree in animal behaviour and training, and a dog first aid qualification. My journey has always been dedicated to dogs. I completed my dog grooming course in 2010, and then gained experience with a mobile dog grooming company before setting up my own business - Susie Scissorhounds. I have been happily grooming dogs ever since!
I take pride in providing a professional grooming service tailored to your dog's needs. The homely environment ensures a stress-free experience for your beloved pooch, and high quality equipment means your dog is going to leave feeling fabulous. With a focus on safety and well-being, I provide everything from nail trimming to full grooms. Get in touch now to secure yourself an appointment, they fill up fast!

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost?
Costs vary from every dog, even within the same breed as no 2 dogs are the same. Costs are based on breed, size, coat condition, temperament and grooming requirements so can only be estimated until after the first groom. Prices start from £40 for a full groom. If the coat is matted there will be an additional charge and if it is severe it is kinder to the dog to shave the coat down and start again with a regular grooming regime in place. Late collection and drop off charges apply and if your dog is found to have fleas there will also be an additional charge.
Can I leave my dog with you?
Yes all dogs can be dropped off for their groom and left. You are required to pick up your dog as soon as it is ready. I will send a text message with a collection time once I know when it is.
How long do grooms take?
The length of time to complete a groom is dependent on the type of groom you require, your dogs coat and temperament and what other dog may be in the salon. I do not rush grooms to maintain as calm an environment as possible and to give the best service. I will always message with a collection time, giving you however much notice you need to get back to the salon on time. To give you an estimation, a standard full groom on a well maintained coat takes approximately 1 hour 30 - 45 minutes.

How can I pay?
Payment is by cash or bank transfer only please. All bank transfers must be sent across before collecting your dog and confirmed via text message or in person.
Do you have any policies?
Yes I have the following policies:
- Vaccinations - All dogs must be up to date on all of their vaccinations to be allowed to come into the salon.
- Late Drop off/collections - If you are over 10 minutes late dropping off or collecting your dog there will be an additional charge.
- Matted dogs - There will be an additional charge of £15 for matted dogs, this is to cover the extra time it takes to groom them plus the extra wear that takes place on equipment. Heavily matted dogs will be shaved down so the coat can start again with a regular grooming regime in place. Dogs skin may be irritated if shaved and the dog may need some time to get used to their shorter coat.
- Fleas - Do not bring in your dog if they have fleas, please rearrange. If fleas are found on your dog they will be treated with a flea shampoo and there will be an additional charge of £20 to cover all of the additional salon cleaning required and potential rearranging of other customers. If they are an extreme case you will be called to collect your dog and will be required to pay the full cost of the groom.
- When to rearrange - Do not bring in your dog if they are in season or pregnant, please rearrange.
- Cancellations - Please give at least 48 hours notice if you need to cancel your appointment. If the notice given is less than this you will be required to pay 50% of the groom cost for cancelling as I may not have time to fill your space. If it is less than 24 hours, the full cost of the groom will need to be paid.
- Toileting - Please ensure your dog has been to the toilet beforehand, preferably on a walk as this sets the dog up for a much better grooming experience.
- Parking - Please park on the main road and walk your dog up to the salon (if you have mobility restrictions then please do park at the house). There is a direct entrance to my part of the driveway via my gate from the public footpath. I live down the end of a small driveway shared by neighbours so this keeps the traffic down and also more importantly gives your dog the chance for 1 last toilet stop.
- Keeping dogs under control - Please keep all dogs on leads until they are safely in the salon. If you need assistance getting a dog in then please just ask.
- Behavioural issues - By bringing your dog to Susie Scissorhounds you acknowledge that I am not liable for any incidents that occur due to dogs behavioural issues. If a dog becomes increasingly aggressive during a groom it may be cancelled due to my own safety and100% of the groom cost will still apply.
- Elderly dogs - Grooming of elderly dogs is done so at the owners own risk and should your dog need veterinary assistance whilst in my care, you consent to me seeking this at your own expense.
- Photos - By bringing your dog to Susie Scissorhounds you agree to me taking photos of your dog being groomed and for them to be used on social media to promote my business.
- GDPR - By booking an appointment you consent to me keeping your personal details. All personal information kept will only be used for grooming purposes and for contacting yourself about appointments and your dog.
